Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is a "customized" medical literature search?
A customized search is a focused search of the published medical literature carefully formulated to identify and retrieve the most relevant, "on-point" information to resolve the key medical issues of your specific case.
Q. What is the process for ordering a customized medical literature search?
We've streamlined the process over the years so that the entire ordering procedure can be accomplished over the phone in less than 5 minutes. All we need to get started is a brief, factual summary of your case and a description of the key medical issues that you need us to resear...we'll take it from there and complete your project within 2 business days...guaranteed!
Q. Do you need to review any medical records?
In the overwhelming majority of cases, we do not require you to send us any medical records. Occasionally, we may request access to specific documents such as a case summary, "time-line", or operative notes to help us gain a better understanding of the key medical issues. We will notify you if we have a need for supplementary documentation.
Q. What type of medical literature do you cover in your research?
We search Medline™ - the National Library of Medicine's database of citations and abstracts covering over 4,500 medical journals published worldwide. For each customized project, we focus on pinpointing the most relevant articles published in peer-reviewed, credible medical journals...those that are most likely to be recognized as being authoritative. For cases involving a potential deviation from the standard-of-care, we always strive to identify the relevant clinical practice guidelines and standards promulgated by professional medical associations as the recommended standard-of-care for a specific medical procedure, intervention, or diagnostic test.
Q. What type of information can I expect to receive if I request a search?
Once we've completed your project, we will contact you by phone and review the results of the research with you to ensure that the information meets or exceeds your expectations. We will then immediately send you via E-mail a detailed report that will include the following information:
- A comprehensive, focused citation index of the most relevant journal articles retrieved during the course of the research matching the specific medical issues of your case.
- For each article citation that includes a corresponding on-line abstract, we provide easy-to use "hyperlinks" to enable you to quickly view and print the article abstracts.
- A valuable "Author Directory" to help you quickly identify and locate leading medical subject matter experts nationwide for case reviews and expert testimony. Many of our clients inform us that the "Author Directory" alone is well worth the price of the customized search.
Q. How can I obtain the full-text copies of articles that are referenced in your report?
After reviewing your report, you can order full-text copies of select articles directly from Medifocus for an additional fee. We will obtain your articles from a medical library, pay the copyright fees, and ship your articles within 3 business days. Alternatively, you can contact a nearby medical library and, for a fee, order full-text copies of journal articles via the library's document retrieval services.
Q. What is your company's policy about confidentiality?
When you contact Medifocus for a customized research project, you can rest assured that all of the information you provide about your client and your case is strictly confidential. This policy is strictly enforced company-wide...no exceptions whatsoever!
